Years ago, at the very beginning of my myth program, a vivid dream of a crumbling book at a lectern became an indelible part of my story. At the time, it felt profound, a subconscious commentary on my dissertation journey and the nature of knowledge.
Today, after much reflection I see it not just as a dream, but as a foundational "myth" for my entire project—a deeply personal origin story that continues to reveal its blueprint.
This dream has served as my guiding narrative, constantly enriching my understanding as my work evolves.
The Project's Origin Story and Blueprint
My dream laid out the core problem that now drives Mythos and Modalities: the inadequacy of old, fragmented narratives for truly addressing complex modern challenges.
It hinted at the solution too: finding my authentic voice, speaking from an archetypal place, and recognizing the urgent need for new stories. This wasn't just a fleeting nocturnal vision; it was a subconscious blueprint that I've now consciously brought to life through my podcast and all its extensions.
A Meta-Commentary on "Systemic Decline"
The crumbling pages of that authoritative, heavy book in my dream have taken on deeper meaning. They don't just symbolize the limitations of established academic canons or traditional myths; they vividly illustrate the very "systemic social and environmental decline" that I now explore and seek to counter. The dream implied that the structures and stories we've relied upon for too long are breaking down, necessitating fundamental systemic reform—a "re-storying" of our world.
The Catalyst for "Applied" Knowledge
In the dream, trying to patch the crumbling pages with fragments from others' books proved futile. This moment was crucial. It perfectly mirrors my "applied mythology and systems thinking" approach in the podcast.
I've realized it's not about endlessly re-analyzing or re-patching existing knowledge (the "dusty books" perception); it's about creating a new framework to build new solutions. The dream pushed me beyond mere academic contemplation towards active creation—using ancient wisdom as a blueprint for contemporary impact.
